NEW POSTAL (USPS) RULES AFFECTING MAIL-IN BALLOTS |
The USPS postmark determines whether a mail-in ballot is valid in an election. Instead of the postmark indicating the date received by the post office, it will now be the date of mail processing, which could be days later; a delay that can deem the ballot late and thereby cause the vote not to count. This change affects voting populations that include militarypersonnel, senior citizens, college students, and people with disabilities. There are ways to ensure mail-in ballots are received on time:
Once submitted, use the mail-in ballot tracker to follow the process. Note: To receive a mail-in ballot(s), you MUST apply each year (Texas Senate Bill 1). Mail-in ballot applications are available through your county election office. |
